The Past Projects collection showcases selected academic and research work developed by students engaged with behavioural design at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. These projects reflect the application of behavioural design principles to address real-world challenges across diverse contexts, demonstrating the intersection of research, design, and human behaviour. This is student work completed within a span of 3 to 4 weeks.
Reducing Food Wastage. [PDF]
This project by Team Well Behaved addresses IIT Delhi campus mess food wastage. By mapping behaviors like overtaking due to queues and rushing, the team proposed structural and behavioral solutions. These include smaller utensils, layout adjustments, real-time feedback bins, and QR-linked "smart plates" to track waste.
Reducing the Water Usage at Wash Basins. [PDF]
This project aims to reduce RO water wastage at the Mittal Sports Complex. Utilizing a 22-participant TDF questionnaire, the team identified problematic behaviors like leaky faucets from automated complacency and using purified water for washing. Interventions include binary push-button faucets, basin elimination, color-coded stickers, and interactive mirrors.
Seat Hai Kya? Navigating for sitting in ExHall. [PDF]
This project addresses severe seating shortages and poor space utilization in a 'most desirable' campus facility during peak hours. It targets problematic student habits like leaving belongings unattended to reserve tables, scattering chairs, and taking prolonged breaks aiming to optimize space accessibility for both individual and group needs.
The Cognitive Cost: Addressing Student Over-Reliance on Generative AI in Academics. [PDF]
This project investigates student over-reliance on generative AI, focusing on IIT Delhi students. It addresses how cognitive offloading diminishes critical thinking and independent learning. Using behavioral frameworks like COM-B, the project explores interventions like meme-based nudges, verification pop-ups, and usage trackers to encourage deep engagement.
Unhealthy food eating behaviour among college students. [PDF]
This project analyses and creates design interventions for unhealthy food eating behaviour among college students. Within this scope, we examine how students make food choices at campus convenience stores and aim to make it easier for them to pick healthier options.
